CHASING THE SUN WITH CUP OF COUPLE
WAY’s undeniable desire to travel has led to a new creative collaboration with Spanish Mike Madrid and Gabriel García, also known as CUP OF COUPLE. A new co-designed colour IS released through a shared passion for exploring the world. This summer the signature WAY beach towel chases the sun with the creative duo. Tell us something about you both and what you do?
“It is always difficult to describe ourselves but here we go. We are Mike and Gabi, we met almost eleven years ago and we have been working together for the last ten years. We really like design and art in all its forms of expression, Mike studied graphic design and photography and I, Gabi, studied advertising and graphic design and now art history. We are photographers, videomakers, art directors and we combine our work for clients and brands with what we do for our Instagram and our website cupofcouple.com”
What would you like your readers to experience with Cup of couple?
“It’s a window to our world. A window in which to see everything that surrounds us from our point of view. We like to find the aesthetic part of everything, their inspiring part. The claim of our site is Daily Visual Inspiration because we like to bring out that pleasant and beautiful side of all things. One of the things that we have read about ourselves in recent years is that we are everyday stylists and it is a description that fits very well. Inspiration is everywhere and it’s something we have learned and value a LOT. Not only from great trips and spectacular places, but also in everyday places and things that surround us in our day to day life”

You recently launched a new webshop on www.cupofcouple.com. What is the concept?
“We have been working on this project for years. We have always been design lovers and consumers and we know that our way of work and creativity is related to this. We always had in mind to create a brand related to our idea of design. The idea behind the Cup of Couple Store is to launch limited editions of collaborations with artists and designers we love to create unique and special pieces. Deco, lifestyle, fashion and everything in between”
How would you describe the WAY beach towels?
“WAY joined us in THe summer OF last year, one of the weirdest years in history, but one of the best summers for us. Towels are always associated with good MEMORIES, eternal afternoons in the sun, moments of peace with ourselves and people we love. All that and more are the WAY beach towels for us, they are synonymous with good experiences”
What makes the “CACTUS” colour so special?
“The green colour is about tranquillity, calmness and comfort. Cactus is special because it represents the ESSENSE of summer. surrounded by nature, tranquillity, no rush, with plenty of time to enjoy, whether with a book, good food or good company. It is also a colour that combines the sand, the blue of the sky, the colour of the water and the sunset light incredibly well. It is the perfect companion”
What is it that makes travelling so important to you?
“Travelling is being in contact with things that ARE UNKNOWN TO YOU, that are not part of your daily routine. It’s exciting and inspiring. It’s one of the driving forces behind our work and what makes everyone like travelling. It is an incredible way to see new things and meet new people, to get to know yourself better and to motivate yourself, in our case, to create. Travelling is part of our culture and our creative language”

What is the best memory from one of your past trips?
“We have many good moments to remember but if we had to choose our favourites… we will always remember our last summer around the Costa Brava, discovering incredible and special beaches and coves that seemed from another planet, the light of Cadaqués, a delicious rice dish by the sea… One of the funniest trips we did together was a road trip through the Keys in Florida and also Thailand a few years ago. it was so incredible that the idea of going back home made us both cry”
You recently shot the WAY x Cup of Couple on Hotel Aire de Bardenas. Tell us about this stunning hotel?
“It’s an incredible place, a dream. It’s a sustainable hotel that has everything we like: architecture, design, tranquillity, calmness, good food… It’s an experience in itself, for what it is and for what it offers. It has incredible sunsets and is full of details and nuances that make it unique. It will always be one of our favourite hotels in Spain”
What is your next dream location and why?
“Right now we dream of various Mediterranean destinations, eternal days on an island, with good food, a great book, sun, plenty of sunscreen and good company. I think we will soon get lost in the volcanic beaches of Lanzarote and the coves of Ibiza. Without a mobile signal but a lot of time to enjoy”
