IF WE WANT TO KEEP EXPLORING THE WORLD, WE WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE WAY WE DO IT.
We acknowledge that any production has an impact on the environment. WAY aims to minimize our impact as much aS possible by RETHINKING WAYS OF PRODUCTION. THIS IS WHY THE TOWELS ARE CAREFULLY DESIGNED AND PRODUCED WITH THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.
THIS IS OUR NEW NORMAL
WAY OF LIFE
WAY OF LIFE
CERTIFIED
production
We searched the globe to find the most sustainable way to produce and settled just outside the beautiful city of Porto in Portugal. Not just known for its lovely Portwine, but also home to some of the best producers of towels in the world.
Our WAY towel producer is a family-owned business and has been making towels for some of the world’s biggest brands since the end of the 1970s. They have an exceptional knowledge within the towel industry and are true pioneers in the field of sustainability. Their commitment to the environment has earned them a handful of prestigious certifications. They are certified with ISO 9001, BCI, OEKO-TEX and GOTS.
All processes are done under one roof, from making the yarn to weaving and dying it and to final quality control. A completely closed production loop that saves the planet from unnecessary CO2 emission compared with conventional production where products have travelled the world before reaching you.
The production of textiles is a water-intensive process. We aim to minimize our use of energy and water in our production. The use of energy at our production facilities are rationed by a quality management system with annual goals for the environment. They have a water treatment plant that recovers 40 % of the water making it possible for them to recycle it. Additional waste is managed by partners that collect the waste and is subsequently recycled, reused or deposited according to the type of waste. With this unique set up our manufacturer is able to ensure a fully sustainable WAY towel production.
One of the reasons we chose to produce in Portugal is because we have a better chance of securing that the employees get the lawful and rightful wage and health care. Our production facility has a Department of Hygiene, Safety and Health composed of two hygiene and safety technicians, a doctor and a nurse who are always ready to step in in case something should happen to the employees.
ENVIRONMENT – FRIENDLY
QUALITY
The quality is perfectly made for sunbathing, with a woven front for lying on and a soft terry back for drying your skin after a swim. Quick to dry and easy to travel with, because of its lightweight. The WAY towel is made from 70% organic cotton and 30% recycled cotton. This unique blend is completely new to the market and the most sustainable cotton towel quality you can find at the moment. Should an even more environment-friendly option become available we will be the first to adapt.
The production of organic cotton protects soil health, ecosystems and farmers. Organic cotton is grown without the use of GMOs and toxic chemicals, thereby keeping fields, soil, water supplies and farmers safe. It is 80% rain-fed and uses 71% less water and 62% less energy compared to conventional cotton.
There are two types of recycled cotton; Pre- and post-consumer cotton. Pre-consumer cotton is cotton scraps and leftover cotton that originate from the production of the textile industry. Post-consumer cotton is cotton from used clothes that would previously have ended up in landfills, but are now recycled into new cotton garments and textiles. By this method, we are taking full use of existing resources.
You might ask yourself why we are not solely using recycled cotton? Unfortunately, this is not possible as the cotton deteriorates from use, which only makes it possible to recycle it as a blend with new fibres.
PLASTIC FREE
PACKAGING
Let’s think outside the box. We are committed to never using plastic when shipping our towels, this being either from our factory to the stores or when shipping you your new towel.
To prevent any unnecessary plastic pollution, the WAY packaging is made from certified organic cotton. We encourage you to reuse it as a bag for your damp towel or swimwear. It’s been coated with natural corn wax to keep the rest of your items dry in your beach bag.
Our shipping boxes are FSC certified, which ensures that they come from sustainably managed forests that prevents deforestation.
